But what it comes down to is, you NEED to have a way to capture data and email addresses in addition to social media channels. You cannot just have social media channels, you will get burned by doing that. It’s happened to me, and it’s happened to clients of ours who didn’t spend time on their email lists and when a hack happened to their social channels, they were panicking big time!

When it happened to me, I had a decent size email list of 800+ people that I knew I could reach with weekly emails so I was slightly less panicked than friends I’ve seen in business who put alllllll their eggs into the social media basket. Yikes!

For example, one of my businesses (this one), I aim for 3 posts/week across various channels (I post to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Business, my email list, my blog and sometimes Pinterest). My goal is to stay top of mind and make sure when I get referrals my channels are always fresh and that I am positioned as the expert. I use a mix of content and email marketing to keep my calendar full(ish) with consultations for my teams services creating and publishing social media content.

But for one of my other businesses (MomBizCafe.ca) I am in a completely different stage. For this business (it’s a baby compared to the other business) I am very much still in the visibility stage. I (along with my biz bestie Alysha who has partnered up with me on this) am totally focused on creating content that grows our accounts as quickly as possible so that we can begin to invite people to our free Facebook group for female entrepreneurs and grow our email list. We are not even trying to sell anything right now, and we are in the experimenting phase of creating content that we think will help us get visible.
